STRI & Illinois Mentors

Single mentor models are unlikely to produce the truly integrative scientists that will be at the forefront of the genome era. Genome-enabled biology requires team-based approaches that are inherently difficult for traditional graduate training programs. The University of Illinois has partnered with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) to provide a diverse pool of mentors for students. This partnership captures the strengths of the graduate programs and the Carl R. Woese Institute of Genomic Biology at Illinois as well as strong international context of research conducted at STRI. On this page, we list possible mentors from STRI and Illinois that are currently involved with VInTG.
